The Components of Firestarter

The Firestarter main graphical interface is divided into subsections called views. Currently two such views are available:

• The Hits View
  This is where data packets that get stopped by the firewall are logged. You can perform actions on a hit like turning it into an rule that will affect how future packets will be handled.
• The Rules View
  This is the section that shapes the firewall, the control room of all network traffic.

Several other pages are on the drawing board. Possible future additions include Statistics and Actions.

Beyond the main interface there are two other sections of interest:

The Wizard is the first thing you see when you start Firestarter. It allows you to quickly change a wide variety of settings controlling the firewall.

The Preferences. This is where you go to fine-tune the many program options to get the behavior just the way you want it. Both the user interface and the firewall can be modified from here.
